Canada creates 54,600 jobs in May
Market Commentary For Friday, June 9, 2017
I am sure Justin and his entourage (aka Liberal party) will be taking full credit for the blow out number of jobs created by their government. Actually, the economy deserves more credit than the Liberal government but it does give the government some credibility. Over 54 thousand jobs were created in May as reported by Statistics Canada this morning. That would be on par with a 540 thousand number in the US and we haven’t seen a number like that since the late 1990’s. Ontario was the biggest winner, with British Columbia and Quebec following close behind. The irony is that the actual unemployment rate went higher as more people entered the work force. The payroll number at one point in time had merit, but over the last few years, these statistics have lost some of the credibility. Enjoy the weekend.
